Now that students have learned the letters on the keyboard and correct finger use, what next?
Keyboarding and riding a bicycle are muscle-memory skills. So, they should be taught the same way. Think about it, children learn HOW to ride a bicycle FAST and, then, constantly and continually practice in the "real" world until they "get it".
One of the most popular school keyboarding software programs boasts 100 lessons. 100 lessons versus the Nail It Now keyboarding method 2 lessons
1 From this point on, keyboarding should be practised in context with "real" projects in class and at home
2 Cover the student keyboards**. If students look at the keys, they learn nothing
3 Two key pages, containing all the association words, are all that's needed for teachers and parents to revise the associations if a student forgets the location of a key
4 Send a parent pack, containing an explanatory letter (sample), the two key pages and the removable adhesive dots, home with students
* If access to computers is limited, students could take it in turns using available computers while the others in the class use cardboard or laminated keyboards
** We prefer removable adhesive dots so that you can color the "bump" F and J dots to help students place their fingers correctly and they are not as awkward as other covers
